This project seeks to analyze the ephemerides of the Portugal’s Carnation Revolution from two perspectives: the first one focuses on the celebrations institutionalized by the Commemorative Commission for the 50th Anniversary of the 25th of April, created by the Portuguese State. The second one refers to the annual parade, the commemorative activities and the various associations that compose them - with emphasis on the 25th of April Association as the parade’s promoter. Lisbon sets the ground for researching the legacy of the revolution reflected in the annual commemorations. The aim is to analyze how the memory of the Revolution is appropriated by different immigrants’ groups, specially the Brazilian ones, that vocalize their demands through the visibility of the ephemerides. Ethnographing the Commemorative Commission and its official character enables us to understand the reflection of this heritage in the Portuguese collective memory, which is a field of disputes that is constantly being updated. Finally, this project proposes an examination on the celebrations in order to rethink the heritage dimension that the date manifests in the contemporary national context while also contributing to establish new ways for framing the act of celebrating in public and theoretic discussions on the heritage field.
