Abstract

Eternal Forest Monsanto is a multidisciplinary site-specific art project, developed in collaboration with the Monsanto Forest Park.

The aim of the project is to communicate ideas about the biodiversity of several spaces of the Park, tangible and non-tangible natural and cultural values of the forest, ideas of interconnectedness in the forest for cultural and social change, through artistic works, artistic performances in the forest, reflection sessions for several audiences, and an exhibition that reaches general and professional audiences.

A creation of two site-specific art experiences in the Monsanto Forest Park: 'Finding the Mother Tree' and 'Eternal Forest is Light' will take place during 2022-2023 and will be delivered to the public in the form of artistic performances.

Two permanent trails will be created linked to the natural landmarks of the forest, interpreting them through poetry and performance.  Based on these experiences, the artist, Evgenia Emets, will create an online guide dedicated to the final artwork that anyone can access through an audio guide and visual materials and have their own physical experience of the forest in the public areas of Monsanto Forest Park.

Evgenia will create an art film as a representation of the two forest experiences to be shown in the exhibition and online at www.eternalforest.earth. She will also create a series of visual works to be exhibited at the end of the project, accompanied by a book publication. The book will include various materials gathered during the development of the project, including text by the art curator, Nuno Sacramento, reflective accounts by the participants, interviews with scientists, photographs, visual works, maps and poetry.
