Memories of FEIS 1992: a project with the Glass Museum on work and deindustrialization
The short-term project Memories of FEIS 1992 is underway, collecting and highlighting the social and heritage value of the perspectives of the former workers of the Fábrica-Escola Irmãos Stephens glass factory on the conjuncture and impacts of its closure in 1992 – while also disseminating anthropological knowledge and the CRIA itself.
This is an initiative of the Glass Museum, financed by the Municipality of Marinha Grande. Under the responsibility of researcher Emília Margarida Marques (GPQ), CRIA is in charge of defining the interview methodology, conducting preliminary research, writing the script and selecting support materials, conducting the interviews, analyzing them and accompanying the creation of an audiovisual content.
Emília Margarida Marques is an anthropologist. Main research areas: work and technology in industrial labour; memories of work; work, consumption, social reproduction and inequality; uses of industrial film (1950-70s); history of the glass industry and glassworkers. Has taught at FCSH -UNL. Has worked / works as a member of research teams and editorial and scientific boards, and as a peer reviewer. Author of Os Operários e as Suas Máquinas: Ussos Sociais da Técnica no Trabalho Vidreiro (2009, Lisbon, Gulbenkian/FCT) and many other works, including reports, chapters and scientific articles, and outreach publications.
