Seminar explores strategies to promote Portuguese gastronomy on the global stage
27 June | 5:00 PM | NOVA FCSH (Auditorium 1, Tower B) & Online
The seminar “Promoting Portuguese Gastronomy Worldwide: Gastrodiplomacy, Internationalisation, Barriers, Benefits and Key Actors”, taking place on 27 June at 5:00 PM at NOVA FCSH in Lisbon, brings together researchers, institutional representatives, and professionals to discuss how Portuguese gastronomy can gain greater international recognition.
Framed by the concepts of gastrodiplomacy and culinary diplomacy, the event will explore the multiple ways in which food can serve as a vehicle of cultural promotion and diplomatic engagement. The programme includes perspectives from sectors as diverse as academic research, public policy, aviation, and local governance — all sharing a common goal: to strengthen the international presence of Portuguese cuisine.
The seminar is part of the research activities developed under the FCT-funded PhD project by Óscar David Gomes Cabral (ref. 2022.BDANA.12373), currently being carried out at the Basque Culinary Center / Mondragon University (Bilbao–San Sebastián), under the supervision of Maria Cardeira da Silva (NOVA FCSH; CRIA – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST).
