Abstract

This project constitutes an anthropological reflection on the circulation of cultural contents and their relation with the contemporary processes of mobility. In particular, the contents produced and disseminated by populations in migratory or diaspora processes that contribute to the construction of the idea of nation, nationalism and ethnicity. Appadurai's (1991) "mediascapes" proposal pointed in the nineties the need to understand and interpret the cultural effects of the flow of individuals, ideas and objects that occur mainly through communication. In this sense, this project focuses on the analysis of processes of mediated communication to analyse the construction of national, transnational and supranational identities and communities in postcolonial, cosmopolitan and global contexts and the ethnicization of social relations. The project analyses in detail the narratives produced in France, Brazil and Canada by the media produced by Portuguese and Cape Verdean migrants (or oriented to Portuguese and Cape Verdean migrants and other Portuguese-speaking individuals) that integrate the postcolonial construction of the idea of a Portuguese nation, a Cape Verdean nation and of ‘lusophony’, interrogating the post-imperial representations of the Portuguese nation.
