Following the path of a feminine boarding school founded in 1900 for the education of the daughters of the Portuguese military that was closed in 2015, this research project aims to examine the way technologies of education intertwine with technologies of gender and class configurations, and how both are individually managed in the formation of personal identities and lifepaths. The institution under analysis, in its turn, is a privileged forum to examine such technologies at the light of distinct ideologies and political systems that ruled in Portugal: the Republic, the Dictatorship, the Revolution and the Democratic regime. Documental research and oral history will be the fundamental methods and the project outputs include the publishing of a book and a documentary film. Research will also identify significant material testimonies to incorporate the collection of the interpretation centre that is to be created in the boarding school former facilities.
