This project proposes a significant shift in perspective in understanding human welfare calculus and welfare sustainability towards a more holistic framework of welfare analysis. The overarching aim of this project is two-fold: First, the original concept of ‘everyday worlds of welfare’ will be developed. This concept will encompass the historically and locally embedded practices, normative livelihood ethics and folk valuation arguments informing how households and individuals define and pursue the fulfilment of tangible and intangible needs (i.e., resources and claims) necessary to secure intergenerational livelihood sustainability. Second, the concept will be applied, in Portugal and Italy, to examine how ordinary people experience, produce, negotiate and conceptualise everyday worlds of welfare within and across diverse regulatory scales of welfare provisioning. This project contributes to formulating a Wellbeing Economy strategy in a post-COVID world.
