Despite the accent placed on the isolation of the Azores, there were, prior to the implementation of the air connections, an intense dinamic between the islands based on maritime transport. Starting from the importance of the subject of circulation in contemporary anthropology, the project aims to replace the priority usually given to greater modes of circulation by accenting on "minor" modes of mobility. Through the exploration of memories, images and archives of inter-island crossings, it is intended to understand the importance of these crossings in the constitution of cultural spaces marked by both insularity and exchanges. It is intended to enrich the reflection on frontiers and crossings in contemporary anthropology and to problematize the importance that issues such as insularity and cosmopolitanism have in the thematization of island identities. The research has a visual component and is part of a more comprehensive exhibition initiative to be developed in partnership with several museums in the archipelago. It also intends to contribute to the ongoing debate in the Azores on the restructuring of the maritime transport network.
