Abstract

The multidisciplinary project between Anthropology and Design, is based on the development of new creative fieldwork methodology, on the extinction of wooden, passenger and cargo shipbuilding, in the parish of Santo Amaro, on Pico Island, Azores. The investigation emphasizes a creative approach, in the mediation and activation of the community, through the identification and appropriation of variables present in the territory. The work crossed different temporalities and fields of investigation, such as anthropology and the future, anthropology design and hypermedia visual representation. The summoning of two grandchildren, of deceased naval masters, as a future generation, who returned to Santo Amaro, deal with loss of identity and struggle with the preservation of memories as resistance to new social processes of museumization, touristification, gentrification and real estate speculation . Participants were suggested to speculate on future scenarios as alterity of the present, emphasizing new discourses about their current life projects, as well as activating new perspectives on existing problems in the community of Santo Amaro.
