Abstract

A thorough ethnographic approach of the Festas Nicolinas (Guimarães, Portugal), a centuries-old yearly festival dedicated to Saint Nicholas and organized in early December by high-school students, allows for a reappraisal of the dynamics that affect certain festive rituals in the present context of institution of culture.
