The revitalization of the religious death cult of the Commendation of Souls in a set of villages in Beira Baixa, is the locus for an ethnographic research project about contemporary conceptions and practices of locality, heritage, identity and gender, also aiming to study "emic" understandings and/or re-conceptualization death ontologies and "persohood", entangled in the ritual"s process.
