Biographical Note
I did my PhD at Cardiff University, UK, on Biological Anthropology and I am currently conducting my research at CRIA – Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia, in collaboration with the Population and Conservation Genetics group from the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência. My research combines empirical data on primate behaviour and socio-ecology with genetics, ethnoprimatology and disease ecology to address questions on primate evolution and the adaptation of primate social systems, and ultimately contribute to their long-term conservation. I have gained 10 years of experience investigating the behaviour, ecology and genetics of different primate species in their natural habitat. My experience as a primatologist showed me how important it is to include an ethnoprimatological approach to better understand the complexity of non-human primate conservation and how these primates respond to environmental threats.
