Biographical Note
Sandra Assis holds a PhD in Biological Anthropology (University of Coimbra, Portugal). She holds a Master degree in Human Evolution (2007) and a BA in Anthropology (2002) from the University of Coimbra. She is a research member of Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA/NOVA FCSH), and president of GEEvH – Group of Studies in Human Evolution. She possesses a significant training in anthropological fieldwork and laboratory analysis of skeletal human remains. Her research interests are focused on the study and diagnosis of pathological conditions through the application of histological techniques. She has published several scientific papers and co-organized numerous scientific meetings. During her graduation, she has successfully combined her studies with other commitments focused on science communication. On this scope, she has published a science book for children that explores the importance of the human skeleton. She has also developed pedagogical activities for children and for the general public in the field of human evolution.
