Biographical Note
Professor of anthropology at ISCTE University Institute of Lisbon. Senior researcher at CRIA-IUL. Jorge Freitas Branco received his PhD from Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz, Germany, taught at the Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife (1992) and at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2010), and was visiting professor at the universities of Leipzig (1996-97), Marburg (2000) and Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (2010), in Recife, Brazil. He carried out field research in Portugal, Atlantic islands (the Madeiras), Germany, Brazil, and France, resulting in publications on materialities, technology, popular cultures, history of anthropology, museums and collections, secularism.
