Biographical Note

Gianpiero Iacovelli is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Nova University (FCSH-UNL) and the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE). He is currently conducting research on the everyday politics of participatory development policies in Lisbon. His work is funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Psychology from the University of Padua, a Master's degree in Anthropology from the University of Bologna, Italy, and a post-graduate degree in African Studies from the University of Falun, Sweden. He has conducted fieldwork research in Madagascar, Ghana, and Italy. His primary research interests include urban marginality, urban collectives, State-society relations, State policies, development, local governance, and non-governmental institutions. He worked in the third sector as an assistant project manager for local development initiatives and EU-funded projects.
