Biographical Note
Catarina Frois is an Anthropology PhD, FCT researcher at CRIA and invited assistant professor at ISCTE-IUL. She is the director of the Summer Course in Anthropology of Crime, and the Specialization Course in Criminality and Deviance. Amongst her most recent works are included: "The Anthropology of Security. Perspectives from the Frontline of Policing, Counter-terrorism and Border Control" (with M. Maguire and N. Zurawski, 2014 Pluto Press), "Peripheral Vision: Politics, Technology and Surveillance" (2013, Berghahn), Vigilância e Poder (2011, Mundos Sociais), and "A Sociedade Vigilante: Ensaios sobre Identificação, Vigilância e Privacidade" (2008, Imprensa de Ciências Sociais). In 2015 Catarina Frois was awarded the Gerda-Henkel (GER) research project grant, under the Special Programme Security, Society and the State, with the project "Human Security in Prison: Perspectives, Subjectivities and Experiences. A Contribution to the Anthropology of Security". Currently, she also coordinates an ethnography of the Portuguese Parliament, under the project "The State from the Inside", funded by Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos (PT). She is the author of several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in international publishings.
