Now Available: Recording of the Seminar “Racism in Portugal #8: Comparative Perspectives”
The recording of the eighth session of the seminar “Racism in Portugal” is now available. The session took place on March 21st, in Auditorium 302 at Iscte, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
Under the theme “Comparative Perspectives”, the event featured contributions from Luísa Semedo (CRIMIC – Sorbonne Université / QUIR RESEARCH HUB – UL), Pedro Schacht Pereira (Ohio State University), and Vânia Gala (Co-Curator of the Portugal Pavilion – Venice Biennale Arte 2024; Curatorial Advisor and Artistic Anchor of MANIFEST – Nantes L’Atelier), and was moderated by Miguel Vale de Almeida (CRIA, Iscte).
The discussion offered a comparative view of racism in Portugal and other international contexts – including France, the US, Brazil, and the UK – focusing on processes of racialisation, structural discrimination, and the negotiation of identity categories.
This session is part of the seminar series promoted by CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology, which seeks to critically examine structural racism in Portuguese society, foster dialogue on public policy, and explore the interconnections between race, social inequality, and gender. The series also addresses the historical continuities of colonial oppression and their contemporary institutional manifestations.
