IN2PAST Talk Series: ‘Facing colonial legacy in the Museum’
From June 28 to October 25, the Santos Rocha Municipal Museum in Figueira da Foz will host the IN2PAST talk series “Facing Colonial Legacy in the Museum”, an initiative that brings together researchers from CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology, alongside other national and international experts.
The first session is on Saturday 28 June at 3 pm. Pedro Mota Curto, director of the Figueira Mar School Group, and IN2PAST researchers Manuela Ribeiro Sanches (IHC), Francisco Mendes (Lab2PT - Landscapes, Heritage and Territory Laboratory), Pedro Antunes (CRIA) and Víctor Barros (IHC) will be in conversation.
The series, held on the last Saturday of each month (and also on the first Saturday of August), invites open debate on heritage, memory, and social transformation, in connection with the exhibition of the same name on display until October 31. The event is part of the TRANSMAT project – Transnational Materialities (1850-1930): Restoring Collections and Connecting Stories, coordinated by IHC – NOVA FCSH, with active participation from CRIA.
CRIA researchers Pedro Antunes (CRIA-NOVA FCSH/IN2PAST), Nélia Dias (CRIA-Iscte/IN2PAST), Sónia Vespeira de Almeida (CRIA-NOVA FCSH/IN2PAST), and Ruy Llera Blanes (CRIA-Iscte/IN2PAST) will take part in the talks, addressing themes such as the history and circulation of colonial collections, contemporary museological practices, and the challenges of decolonizing Portuguese museums.
Admission is free.
