Exhibition “Echoes that Heal: Religion, Spirituality, Wellbeing”
29 November – 12 December 2025
Museu de Arte Popular, Sala das Beiras
Opening and guided tour: 29 November 2025
CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology invites you to the exhibition “Echoes that Heal: Religion, Spirituality, Wellbeing”, which offers a sensory and anthropological exploration of contemporary religious, spiritual, healing, and wellbeing practices in Portugal, Spain and Greece.
The exhibition presents a photographic collection developed within the scope of the ReSpell – Religion, Spirituality and Wellbeing project, based on fieldwork carried out between 2023 and 2025. The images reveal how these practices resonate through lived experiences shaped by socio-economic and political challenges, transnational flows, and, more recently, the global COVID-19 health crisis.
Visitors are invited to experience the religious, spiritual and therapeutic echoes that flow through individuals and communities—echoes that may be clear or subtle, echoes of resistance, transformation, and spiritual creativity. Each photograph acts as a fragment of this transreligious narrative, capturing unique moments of healing and wellbeing found in everyday life across Southern Europe.
The exhibition seeks to create a sensory space where visitors can immerse themselves in these “echoes that heal”, reflecting on the therapeutic and transformative potential of contemporary religio-spiritual practices.
The project ReSpell – Religion, Spirituality and Wellbeing: A Comparative Approach to Transreligiosity and Crisis in Southern Europe is funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (2022.01229.PTDC) and hosted by CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology.
