Trinh T. Minh-ha in Lisbon: voices, landscapes and reflections at Doc's Kingdom
Vietnamese director, writer, theorist and professor Trinh T. Minh-ha will be in Lisbon on 24 and 25 November for a special programme as part of Doc's Kingdom - International Documentary Film Seminar. The event, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, will explore the political and ethical possibilities of sound in documentary cinema.
Trinh T. Minh-ha, based in the USA, will present two films: What About China? (2022), a work that weaves a unique perspective on the Chinese countryside through material filmed in the 1990s, and a previously unseen restored copy of Naked Spaces: Living is Round (1985), a film that explores the poetics of dwelling in West Africa through the senses.
The programme in Lisbon also includes a masterclass entitled "The Everyday: Form and Forces", where Trinh T. Minh-ha will explore the central themes of his work, followed by a conversation with Catarina Alves Costa. This masterclass, with free admission, will take place in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon.
The screening of What About China? (on the 24th, 6pm, at the Fundação Oriente) will be free, while the screening of Naked Spaces: Living is Round (on the 25th, 9.30pm, at the Cinemateca Portuguesa) requires a ticket, which can be purchased online or at the box office.
This event is a partnership between Apordoc, Cinemateca Portuguesa, Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA), Fundação Oriente and Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (GIAM-CIEBA).
