The project submitted in the Anthropology PhD, area of specialization in Production, Work and Consumption, starts in the concepts of feeding, identity, migration and memory to discuss how dietary consumptions of Cape Verdean migrant communities in the Lisbon region allow defining a food identity. As other cultural events, food is one of the pillars of the structure of cultural identity in the context of migration, in that sense, eating should not be regarded as a mere practice of biological nutrition, since the preservation or extinction of certain eating habits entails considerable symbolic and cultural importance to the reading of migrant identities. The aim is to study different feeding territories in order to learn how they act in structuring identities, maintenance and transmission of individual and collective memories. Thus, the territories (domestic and public) and circumstance (daily, week-end and holidays) of feeding will be taken into consideration, since each is guided by different sociocultural dynamics. Equally important are the differences of class, economic, geographical, etc.. Accordingly, the proposal aims to analyze the significance of Cape Verdeans consumer products and how they are associated with the nostalgia for the tastes of the land, translated into consciousness of the meaning of kumida di téra.
