public.project.abstract

The celebrations of the April 25 (Carnation Revolution) in the municipality of Odemira have become a hallmark among the most intense and vibrant civic commemorations held in Portugal. Marking the fiftieth anniversary of the revolution, the present project’s main goal is to produce a retrospective ethnography of these commemorative practices, taking into account the transformations seen in this municipality from 1977 to the present. In terms of methodology, the project will entail consultation of public and private archives, of the local, regional and national press, as well as accompanying the commemorations and carrying out interviews with promoters and participants. This second phase of the project, while continuing the research carried out between April 2022 and January 2023, focuses on the processing of collected data and the writing of a book.
