Robert Rowland (São Paulo, 1945) studied Classics and Economics at the University of Cambridge. Between 1979 and 2010 he was Professor of Anthropology at ISCTE-IUL. He has also been Research Associate in Social Anthropology at the University of Kent (1967-70), Lecturer with Responsibility for Interdisciplinary Studies, School of European Studies, University of East Anglia (1970-75), Professor extraordinário of Economic History at the University of Porto (1975-79), and Professor of Eropean Social History at the Europan University Institute, Florence (1987-95).
