Marta Maia graduated in Social Anthropology at ISCTE in 1996 and obtained a doctorate in Social Anthropology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris) in 2002, with a grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). She did research at the Laboratoire d’Anthropologie Sociale (Paris) with a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2004-2005); at the Institute of Social Sciences (ICS-IUL), with a grant from FCT (2007-2008); and at CRIA under the program Science (2008-2013). Her research focuses on sexuality, health and illness. She is a board member of the Group of Activists in Treatments (GAT) since 2019.
