Graduated in Social Anthropology from ISCTE in 1990 and PhD in Anthropology from the University of Minho in 2003, Luís Cunha has oriented his research towards two main themes and their respective ramifications. On the one hand, on a set of themes that is part of debates on national identity he produced works on themes such as national heroes and representations of history or on the discourses of Lusophone in the past and present. The Estado Novo is a period to which he paid particular attention. The other theme is that of social memory, and around it, he has approached the Portuguese-Spanish border and dealt with themes such as the memory of smuggling or civil war. More recently, he has been addressing the crisis of financial systems and the transformation of political systems in contemporary times.
