Biographical Note
Lara Silva Fagundes is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at FCSH-NOVA/ISCTE-IUL, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). She holds a degree in Journalism (Federal University of Santa Maria – Brazil), a Master’s in Audiovisual and Multimedia (ESCS-IPL), and a postgraduate diploma in Audio and Video Production (FCSH-NOVA). She has experience working and conducting research with vulnerable populations, local communities, people experiencing homelessness, and individuals with addictive behaviors and dependencies. She has been involved in various academic projects, participated in university extension events, and was a research fellow in the project “Agência Da Hora: Multimedia Information for the Social Development of Médio Alto Uruguai.” She directed the documentary “Saravá Irmãos – Children’s Participation in Umbanda,” which became a chapter in the e-book “Media and Religions: Communication and Faith in Societies in Mediatization” (2013). She has also participated in volunteer projects in Brazil, Portugal, and Cape Verde, consistently focusing on communication as a tool for inclusion and social development, cultural appreciation, and participatory innovation. Throughout her career, Lara Fagundes has been engaged with communication and the social sciences, and as a multidisciplinary professional, she has sought to use communication as a means of visibility, empowerment, knowledge, and social inclusion.
Research interests: visual anthropology, ethnographic film, documentary, collaborative methodologies; ethnography, social inclusion, community development.
