Ph.D. in History at the Université Lumière Lyon 2 (2003). His main research interests are: urban tourism, daily life in contemporary cities, representations and perceptions of urban spaces. He is professor at Universidade Autóma de Lisboa and invited professor at ISCTE-IUL. During the spring 2015, he was awarded the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso / Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies at the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He is a member of the editorial board the scholarly journal Ler História.
