Biographical Note
I am a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the NOVA University of Lisbon (FCSH-UNL), where my research is driven by a persistant fascination with the intersections of nature and culture. My current project, "Dynamics of Conservation Landscapes: Communities, Research and Tourism in Cantanhez and Boé National Parks," is the culmination of my academic journey dedicated to understanding the complex relationships between humans and their environments.
My path has been intentionally interdisciplinary, with the hope of developing transdisciplinary work in the future. My Bachelor's in Anthropology at FCSH-UNL instilled in me the foundational belief that successful conservation must be traced with a deep understanding of the social, cultural, and economic contexts of the human communities closest to wildlife. To complement this, I pursued a Master's in Conservation Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, gaining technical skills in genetic analysis and ecology of primate populations. This dual background allows me to merge ethnographic sensitivity with biological methods, aiming for a more convivial and just approach to conservation. Through my doctoral work, I seek to contribute to sustainable conservation planning by using anthropological methods to understand the socioeconomic and cultural interactions between people and wildlife.
