Biographical Note
PhD in Anthropology from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia with the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Author of the only doctoral thesis that has tackled post-war hunger in Spain from a culturalist perspective. Author of numerous publications, including scientific articles, book chapters and successful books such as "Cuando el pan era negro. Recipes from the hunger years in Extremadura". He has made multiple contributions to congresses, symposia and conferences dealing with the symbolic and cultural aspects of food and hunger. Winner of the Arturo Barea International Research Prize 2019 and the International Prize of the Portuguese Anthropology Association (APA) 2020. He has been Visiting Professor at the Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala and at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal). He is currently a full-time Professor at the University of Extremadura. He is also president of the International Commission on Anthropology of Food and Nutrition (ICAF), and member of the Interdisciplinary Group for Studies in Society, Culture and Health (GICSA), the International Commission on Anthropology of Food and Nutrition (ICAF), the International Research Institute on Ageing (4iE+), the International Network of Studies on Culture and Hunger (CIEMEDH-UNED) and the UNESCO Chair on Food, Culture and Development. He is also the coordinator of the Anthropology of Food Network of the Association for the Anthropology of Food (Asociación de Antropología de la alimentación de la Asociación de Antropología d'Antropología de la Alimentación).
