Biographical Note

Cecilia Veracini is a primatologist, biological anthropologist, and historian of science. She holds degrees in Biological Sciences and Anthropology, a PhD in Anthropological Sciences, and a PhD in History of Science (University of Florence). She has conducted long-term primate conservation research in Brazil and held academic and research positions at universities and natural history museums in Europe and the United States. From 2019 to 2025, she was a researcher and adjunct professor at the University of Lisbon. She has authored scientific articles, book chapters and co-edited four volumes, Primati (2009), History of Primatology: Yesterday and Today. The Mediterranean Tradition (2019), Peoples, Nature, and Environments: Learning to Live Together (2020), and Primates in History, Myth, Art, and Science (2024). Her research adopts an interdisciplinary and comparative approach, focusing on ethnoprimatology, multispecies ethnography, history,, environmental anthropology, and conservation.
