Amarilli Varesio is a PhD student in Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Milan-Bicocca. She has a master in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Turin with a thesis on informal waste recycling in Uganda. In the past she has made research on migrant workers within the gig economy in Turin. For the PhD, she is exploring the challenges related to electricity access in urban contexts in Uganda, the influence of politics in this sector and the role of batteries (circulation, repair and recycling) as an infrastructure that allows energy bricolage of low-income populations.
