International Congress “Histories of Anthropology and Restitutions” Lisbon 2026
From 13 to 15 May 2026, the international colloquium “Histories of Anthropology and Restitutions” will take place in Lisbon. It is organised by NOVA FCSH, CRIA / IN2PAST, the Bérose platform and the Museu Nacional de Etnologia, within the framework of the International Research Network HITAL (CNRS, France), which brings together institutions from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, France and Portugal.
The event will be held at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCSH) and at the National Museum of Ethnology, bringing together international researchers to discuss the relationships between the history of anthropology and contemporary processes of restitution and reparation related to collections, archives and cultural heritage.
The programme includes keynote lectures, thematic panels, debates and a performative intervention, addressing topics such as the provenance of collections, the restitution of ethnographic archives, collaborative museology, and dialogues between academic institutions and Indigenous communities.
