All the information regarding the call can be found at FCT website, although not all the documentation nor the platform are available yet.
If you wish to consider CRIA as your host institution: fill the online form at: https://forms.gle/xdBSpNuxzfTTu24h8 until March 12th 2023 (extended deadline).
In the form you are required to upload the recommendation letter from your supervisor. The letter can be an email from your supervisor. It is mandatory that the supervisor is a CRIA full member.
If you apply for the specific line in a non-academic environment, it is also mandatory that to upload in the on-line form the letter of recommendation/email of your supervisor at the non-academic institution.
CRIA will not accept applications:
a) after the deadline (March 12th);
b) without the recommendation letter from your supervisor.
The proposals will be examined and CRIA’s decision will be communicated to candidates through the e-mail address provided in the form.
Important:
1. There are two types of application:
a) Research activities for PhD scholarships in an academic environment may be carried out in any academic entity of production and dissemination of knowledge, national or international, including public and private higher education institutions, R&D units, Associated Laboratories, as well as other private non-profit institutions whose main objective is R&D activities. The work plan may be carried out entirely or partially in a national institution (in-country fellowship or mixed fellowship, respectively), or entirely in a foreign institution (abroad fellowship);
b) Specific application line in a non-academic environment - In this line, applications will be submitted where the work plan is developed in close articulation with non-academic entities, which should host the fellows during a considerable part of their work leading to the doctoral degree. Non-academic host institutions are considered to be all those entities not included in the academic environment as characterized in the general application line. For example, this line includes Companies, Collaborative Laboratories, Technology and Innovation Centers, Interface Centers, Public Administration entities, State Laboratories, Hospitals, Museums, Libraries or other third sector entities. In the various host configurations that this line allows, it is essential to include at least one national non-academic host institution and one academic host institution (national or foreign), as well as a scientific supervisor from each of these institutions.
2. Only one application per person is allowed, regardless of the type of application.
3. Check the regulations of the PhD program where you intend to apply/are enrolled. In most of these programmes the supervisor must be a professor at the respective university.
4. The cv will be associated to the application through the CiênciaVitae platform. If you do not yet have it on this platform, you must do so. It is mandatory.

5. PhD applicants having obtained previous degrees from a non-Portuguese University: it will be necessary to register the degree and have the grades converted to the Portuguese scale. Without this the evaluation results can be undermined. You can do it at Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior or in a Public University: https://www.dges.gov.pt/en/pagina/degree-and-diploma-recognition, and add the registration document to the application form.
6. To apply for a PhD studentship it is necessary: To be a citizen permanently and usually living in Portugal, in case the work plan of the requested studentship proceeds, entirely or partially, in foreign institutions (in case of both in Portugal and abroad or exclusively abroad studentships); this requirement is applicable to both national and foreign citizens;
[Although it’s not mandatory at the time of application submission, it’s mandatory to sign the grant contract.]
