This presentation is based on my PhD research, which examines the Hindu-Gujarati diaspora in Lisbon, focusing on the Comunidade Hindu de Portugal (CHP). Through ethnographic fieldwork, the project explores how identity, belonging, and religious practice are negotiated across generations. The study highlights the temple’s role as a space of ritual adaptation, cultural transmission, and decolonial resistance, primarily through women’s central involvement in teaching the youth. Moreover, the rising anti-immigrant discourse in Portugal and the crisis in AIMA’s immigration management intensify the community’s assertions of Portuguese belonging. Combining participant observation, interviews, and autoethnographic reflection, the project analyses how Hindu practices and identities are continually reconfigured in the contemporary European context.
