Applications are now open for the PhD in Anthropology: Politics and Images of Culture and Museology, a joint programme organised by Iscte and NOVA FCSH.
The PhD in Anthropology: Politics and Images of Culture and Museology aims to provide a simultaneously diverse and critical approach to contemporary processes of the production and reproduction of cultural forms. Centred on interdisciplinary research, the programme addresses themes such as the porous boundaries between material and intangible heritage and between natural and cultural heritage; the role of museums and tourism in the objectification of culture; the circulation and rescaling of cultural expressions; the relationship between material and immaterial forms of cultural expression; and the study of ritual and other cultural performances.
Alongside its focus on cultural practices and Intangible Cultural Heritage in Portugal, the programme also encompasses other research contexts across three geographical axes: Mediterranean countries, Brazil, and African countries with Portuguese as an official language.
The programme aims to train highly qualified researchers and professionals, with a particular focus on Intangible Cultural Heritage, to serve as an academic forum for research and critical discussion on processes of heritagisation, and to provide professional skills enabling graduates to play an active role in society.
