2LEGACY - Exploring the role of raw materials in Portuguese ceramic crafts to bring LEpierre’s LEGACY to the future

The project “Exploring the role of raw materials in Portuguese ceramic crafts to bring Lepierre’s legacy to the future/2LEGACY”, one of four approved in the IN2PAST 2024/2025 Exploratory Project Financing Competition, seeks to understand the role of endogenous clay in production ceramics. Based on the legacy of French chemist Charles Lepierre - "Estudo Chimico e Technologico sobre a Ceramica Portugueza Moderna” (1898) - and contemporary ceramic practices, the multidisciplinary team that includes CRIA researchers, Sónia Mota Ribeiro and Eduarda Rovisco, explores strategies based on traditional knowledge to value heritage and regenerate artisanal production, in the regions of Estremoz and Barcelos.
