Training workshop
Voices in Action: Practical Approaches to Participatory Research
Participatory research methods that involve collaborative approaches where community members actively engage in decision-making processes and research that impact their lives has been quite widespread in anthropology in recent years. By valuing local knowledge and meaningful participation of individuals who may lack formal research training, participatory research does not only facilitate inclusive and democratic research environment but also helps to reflect local realities better by involving the participants’ direct point of view into research.
In this training workshop that will take one whole day, in the first session we will listen to experienced researchers who used participatory action in their research and learn about their methodological approach and research process. In the next session of the workshop after lunch, we will hear upcoming projects of doctorate and postdoc researchers who want to use this methodology and discuss the possible practical ways for them to include participatory research in their projects. The aim of this workshop is to discuss how we can use participatory research methods in practice and how to overcome possible challenges of the methodology.
