Biographical Note
Doctor in Sociology (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - Brazil, 2009) and master in Anthropology (Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo - Brazil, 2000), Vera Marques post-graduated in Social Sciences (Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política in São Paulo - Brazil, 1996) and graduated in Social Communication (Instituto Cultural Newton Paiva Ferreira - Brazil, 1978). Researcher of CER (Religion Studies Center of Pierre Sanchis, UFMG-Brazil) and CRIA (Centre for Research in Anthropology - Portugal) — within the research groups Circulation and Place-Making, AZIMUT - Studies in Arab and Islamic Contexts, NAR - Anthropology of Religion Group. She has academic and professional experience in anthropology and sociology, with an emphasis on religion. Her research focuses mainly on the following topics: Islam, conversion, Muslims, practices, immigration.
