Biographical Note
Luís Ferreira is a PhD student in Anthropology at ISCTE and NOVA FCSH. His PhD project focuses on Serra da Estrela PDO cheese, analysed as an ethnographic object to understand processes of heritage preservation, authenticity construction and cultural valorisation in the context of globalisation.
His research combines anthropology of heritage, food and the environment, exploring themes such as cultural and symbolic value, multispecies ecologies and the sustainability of agro-pastoral practices.
His professional career in Serra da Estrela reinforces the link between academic research and cultural appreciation of the territory, where he has developed projects related to the preservation, interpretation and dissemination of gastronomic heritage and local traditions.
His research interests cover the relationships between heritage, identity and globalisation, with a special focus on the role of food as a cultural practice.
Based on the case of Serra da Estrela, he seeks to contribute to a broader reflection on heritage, symbolic economy and possible futures in mountain territories.
