Biographical note

Pedro Pestana Soares is a doctoral student in Anthropology at the New University of Lisbon, where he investigates Sufi-inspired Islamic movements in the outskirts of Lisbon. In 2016, he completed his master in Anthropology at ISCTE-IUL, with an ethnography of Angolan Catholic missions that host children accused of witchcraft. Previously, as a member of Númena – Research Centre in Social Sciences and Humanities, he worked on minority religions and religious discrimination in Portugal, and participated in the multidisciplinary “The Pilgrimage Project: a Study of Motivations and Experiences in Sacred Spaces”, undertaking fieldwork in several Christian and Neo-pagan pilgrimage sites around Europe.
