CRIA invites you to a roundtable discussion centred on the documentary Eu queria ser tudo (I Wanted to Be Everything), by filmmaker Luísa Pinto, which explores the experiences of confinement in total institutions within the context of the Brazilian dictatorship.
The session proposes a multidisciplinary commentary — drawing on anthropology, sociology, political science, journalism, and art — structured as a dialogue between different disciplinary perspectives. Taking the film as a shared point of departure, the contributions do not aim to offer a single reading, but rather to open the debate to multiple ways of looking at the forms of control, confinement, and resistance that the documentary brings to the fore.
"Eu queria ser tudo" offers an intimate and politically situated portrait of lives shaped by institutional confinement during one of the darkest periods of Brazil's recent history. The roundtable takes this film both as a pretext and as an archive — a space from which to think collectively about the conditions that make the total subjugation of individuals by the state possible.
Admission is free.
