Biographical note

Vanessa Amorim holds a bachelor and a master’s degree in Anthropology. Currently, Vanessa is a PhD student in the same area in ISCTE-IUL with a research grant from FCT. In her master, she has focused on Setúbal fishing community and developed a fieldwork among the fisher folk. This investigation resulted in the master’s thesis: “Seas of uncertainty: ethnography in the liminal present in Setúbal fishing community”. Since then, Vanessa has collaborated with some organisations related to the sector. In the PhD, her aim is to continue the same research interests to analyse how uncertainty is a constitutive element of the everyday lives of fishing communities of Setúbal and Olhão.
