Abstract

The first aim of the project is to give a thorough account of the social role of divination of the Afro-Cuban religions in contemporary Cuba, especially in the capital city of Havana. In what instances and situations divination is used, what kind of relations are forged through it? The second aim of the project is to offer a comparative approach on the former phenomenon with the official perspective of the Cuban regime, of socialist inspirations and aspirations Especially in a time of changes, viewed and framed as na ‘opening’ of socialism, there is the purpose of studying both the convergences and disparities between Afro-Cuban religiosity and Cuban socialism.
