Biographical note

Raquel Carvalheira holds a PhD in Anthropology at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon. Her research focused on transformations of family life and organization in Morocco, particularly young women’s expectations on conjugality. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at CRIA where she conducts a research project entitled “Islam and family relations in Portugal: conjugality, gender and plurality of trajectories”. She has conducted research in several projects as “Portuguese Castles aboard II. Heritage, Tourism, and Portuguese Cultural Cooperation in African Contexts” (2008) and “Merap-Med Religious Memories and Heritage Practices in the Mediterranean. Confessional Coexistence and Heritage Assertion” (in 2014), both at CRIA (Centre for Research in Anthropology). Recently, she has conducted ethnographic research in a Portuguese public administration service within the project “The State from within: An ethnography of power and public administration in Portugal”, at SOCIUS – ISEG.
