Biographical note

Mónica Saavedra is an anthropologist with a PhD from the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She has conducted research on medical anthropology, history of medicine and colonial medicine. She was a post-doctoral research fellow at CRIA/ISCTE-IUL, from April 2011 to October 2012, and developed a research on scientific professions related to malaria research in Portugal in the 21st century. From October 2012 to October 2017, she was a research fellow at the Centre for Global Health Histories, Department of History, University of York, UK. Her research centered on the history of public health and of primary health care in Goa, India, from 1920 to 1990.
