Biographical note

Lecturer at the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, Nova University, Lisbon, Margarida Fernandes studied Anthropology and Geography at University College London (BSc) and holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Kent at Canterbury. Her areas of interest include political and economic anthropology and the anthropology of literature. In 2004, she published the book “Hora di Bai: A Atitude dos Caboverdianos perante a Morte; Uma Abordagem Antropológica a partir da Literatura de Ficção” (Lisboa: Vega Editora), with Preface by José Carlos Venâncio, Universidade da Beira Interior, and in 2006 “Terra de Catarina: Ocupação de Terras e Relações Sociais em Baleizão” (Oeiras: Celta Editora), with Preface by Heriberto Cairo Carou, Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
