Abstract

My aim is to articulate the ethnographic archive with the fieldwork through an ethnographic research around the contemporary senses, in rural and / or periurban Kimbundu contexts, of the oral tradition references contained in particular in the work of the Swiss missionary Héli Chatelain , Folk-tales of Angola, published in the United States in 1894. Valuing the desire to re-encounter with local values, knowledge and tonalities, it is proposed an innovative approach in cultural continuity issues, through a methodological resource to the intellectual suggestions advanced by the recent American neo-boasian movement. It is a question of assuming the possibility of a more dialogical and participant Anthropology in the project of construction of the Angolan nation, as “imagined community”, in order to integrate the indigenous heritage, taking into account the historical complexity of the processes of continuity. Thus, in this sense, the thesis is divided into two moments: in a first, central corpus of the thesis, the realization of a descriptive and analytical ethnography, combined with an anthropological reading of the contents of the said work of Chatelain and, in a second moment, to integrate the results into theatrical performances.
