Biographical note

Joana Lucas holds a PhD in Anthropology from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal (FCSH-UNL), with the dissertation “Between ‘sky and sand’: tourism, travels and expeditions. Mapping discourses and practices on Mauritania”, with a scholarship from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. She is a researcher at the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) since 2007. She has a master’s degree in “Anthropology: Multiculturalism and Identities” from ISCTE-IUL where she presented the dissertation “A tea service and a GPS kit: identity reconfigurations and other challenges among Mauritanian Imraguen”. She has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Mauritania (Parc National du Banc d’Arguin and Nouakchott) and Morocco. She is now a postdoctoral researcher with a scholarship from the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, and her current research focuses in the patrimonialisation of the “Mediterranean Diet”, taking as case studies Tavira (Portugal) and Chefchaouen (Morocco).
