Abstract

Taking the cultural heritage as a constant reinvention, which is based on a selective visit to the past, it is possible to understand the neighborhood of Ribeirão da Ilha (RI, Florianópolis / Santa Catarina) as a place of creative heritage that, at a local level, has been producing community representations, anchored in the process of affirmation of the Azorean identity of the municipality of Florianópolis. This locality has a set of cultural heritage (both material and intangible) that is triggered and patrimonialized by the various social actors who seek an identity that makes sense in the present, while justifying the preservation of the region’s assets. In RI this process is evident in the public space, with the maintenance of the traditional architecture: The façades of the houses and the streets, for example, were aesthetically recovered, witnessing a patrimonial imagery aimed at consumption for tourist purposes and political motivations.
