Abstract

The first aim of the project is to give a thorough account of the social role of divination of the Afro-Cuban religions in contemporary Cuba, especially in the capital city ofes Havana. In what instances and situations divination is used, what kind of relations are forged through it? The second aim of the project is to offer a comparative approach on the former phenomenon with the official, of socialist inspirations and aspirations, perspective of the Cuban regime. Especially in a time when there are being some changes, viewed and framed as an ‘opening’ of socialism, I am interested to look at both the convergences and disparities between Afro-Cuban religiosity and Cuban socialism.
